Fostering pets: have you ever thought about it?

I don't think I'm in the situation to even think about fostering. I live in an apartment - and they have rules. Maybe if I lived in a house with a large backyard...husband and kids...more stability.

Are you a foster parent for animals? What made you decide to become one? What's it like? Is it hard knowing the pet isn't staying with you permanently...and one day you may give him/her up?
